What are NYT Strands?

Strands is the NYT’s new word game, following Wordle and Connections. It’s now out of beta so it’s a fully-fledged member of the NYT’s games stable, and can be played on the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile.

I have got a full guide to how to play NYT Strands, complete with the tips for solving it, so do check that out if you’re struggling to beat it each day.

How to play Strands

Every time you are confronted with a Strands puzzle, you are in search of the “theme words” which are scattered in the squares of letters. To construct words using letters, either drag them as in on-screen Scrabble, or tap on them; tap once on the final letter twice to confirm. Depending on the input you provide, the letters will change to blue and will be non-activated afterwards.

Even if you get a word that is not a theme word, it is still advantageous! For every 3 non-theme words you get, if they are at least 4 letters long, then you get a hint; one of the letters in a theme word will be revealed and it is up to you to rearrange the letters correctly.

Absolutely every letter on the grid is used and the theme words do not share any letters at all. Each letter of the alphabet will be utilized and will be incorporated only once in the set of circles.

Every puzzle has one “spangram” a special theme word (or words) that represents the theme of the puzzle and connects touching two different quadrants of the board. When you find the spangram, the word will be followed by a yellow bind and you will enclose the same as well.

The goal in the game should mean the fast solving of the given task without using much information.
